KANSAS CITY, Mo. - In the final regular season poll, Lubbock Christian (Texas) University holds as the No. 1 team in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Baseball Coaches' Top 25, announced today (May 7). For the third time this year, the Chaparrals tabbed all first-place votes with 20 nods this poll. LCU stands with the best winning percentage (.962) in all of NAIA baseball at 50-2 and is the No. 1 seed in this week's Region VI Tournament. The five straight weeks for LCU at No. 1 is the longest such streak for a team other than Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) since Oklahoma City went seven straight weeks during the 2004 season.
No. 2 Lewis-Clark State, host of the 2008 NAIA Baseball National Championship, received 476 points. For the seventh time and sixth straight week, Lee (Tenn.) is at No. 3 and boasts the most wins (53) in the NAIA. No. 4 Azusa Pacific (Calif.) and No. 5 Oklahoma City have been a mainstay in the Top 5 all season. Azusa has been included in this list in every poll (10 total) while OCU has been one of the five best teams in eight polls.
At No. 21, Oklahoma Baptist hits the Top 25 for the first time in three weeks. No. 24 Missouri Baptist reaches the poll for the first time since No. 20 in the April 3 poll.
Region Tournaments conclude on Saturday, May 10. The Super Regional field of 14 teams will be announced on Sunday, May 11 with those super regional winners advancing to the 52nd Annual NAIA World Series from May 23-30.
