TURNBERRY, Scotland – Texas A&M University’s Andrea Pavan defeated Oklahoma Christian University’s Rhein Gibson 1-up Thursday (June 19) in the second round of match play at the British Amateur Championship, hosted by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews.

Gibson, a four-time NAIA All-American at Oklahoma Christian, had defeated Florida State University’s Jonas Blixt in the first round to advance to Thursday’s play. After defeating Gibson, Pavan went on to beat Steven McEwan 2&1 in the third round to move into Friday’s quarterfinals.

The tournament winner will automatically qualify for the Masters on the PGA Tour.
