2007 NAIA Cross Country National Championship Qualifiers Announced

    Nov. 6, 2007

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the qualifiers for the 52nd Annual Men's and 28th Annual Women's NAIA Cross Country National Championship. The races will be held at Dr. Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Saturday, November 17, 2007. The men's race will start at 10:30 a.m. (CST) while the women's starts at 11:45 a.m. (CST).

This year's men's 8K race will feature 28 teams, including 13 region champions and 15 at-large bids, and 67 individual qualifiers. The Malone College (Ohio) occupied the top spot in all 10 Top 25 polls this season and is the favorite to capture the team title. The Pioneers along with Simon Fraser (B.C.) will aim for their second national title while the rest of the field is going for their first.

Women's 5K race will welcome 29 teams (14 region champions and 15 at-large bids) and 67 individual qualifiers. Simon Fraser University (B.C.), who claimed its fourth straight title and ninth overall last season, is once again the front runner this year. The Clan have spent the entire season as the No. 1 team in the Top 25 polls and are going for a record fifth straight championship. Cedarville (Ohio), Malone (Ohio) and Concordia (Calif.) are aiming for their second title.

Kenosha, the nation's only pure cross country courses with its long-standing history as a community that embraces the sport, has hosted 26 NAIA National Championship Cross Country events from 1976 to 1979 and 1981 to 2002.
