May 14, 2011

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Five top-seeded teams were victorious in the second day of the 2011 NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round at nine locations across the country Friday. Three top-seeded squads were upset, including defending national champion Cumberland (Tenn.), suffering a 5-3 setback to third-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan in the Paducah (Ky.) Bracket.

In the Kingsport (Tenn.) Bracket, second-seeded Faulkner (Ala.) upended top-seeded Union (Ky.), 10-1, and third-seeded Concordia (Calif.) beat top-seeded California Baptist, 4-3, in the Riverside (Calif.) Bracket.

Top-seeded Lee (Tenn.), Lubbock Christian (Texas), Oklahoma Baptist, Oklahoma City and Embry-Riddle (Fla.) each advanced into the championship game of its respective bracket.

Weather altered Friday's games in the Montgomery (Ala.) Bracket, as the first game between top-seeded LSU Shreveport (La.) and second-seeded Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) was suspended in the middle of the fourth inning. The 2-2 game is scheduled to resume Saturday at 11 a.m. CDT, followed by an elimination contest between fifth-seeded Huntington (Ind.) and fourth-seeded William Woods (Mo.) at 1:30 p.m. The two have already played once in Montgomery, with William Woods prevailing 7-1.

The Cleveland (Tenn.) Bracket was only able to get in two of three games, pushing the fourth-seeded Indiana Tech and fifth-seeded Shawnee State (Ohio) elimination game to Saturday at 1 p.m. EDT.
