2014 NAIA Baseball Players of the Week ? No. 6
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Corey Lathram of William Penn (Iowa) has been named the NAIA Baseball National Pitcher of the Week and Ricky Rodriguez of Sterling (Kan.) has been selected as the NAIA Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Lathram and Rodriguez were chosen based on their performances from April 14 – 20 and were selected out of a pool of conference, independent and unaffiliated group winners.

Lathram, a native of Brentwood, Calif., tossed William Penn’s first no-hitter since 2012 in a 2-0 win at Clarke (Iowa) on April 17. In only his second start of the season, the senior hurler struck out seven in seven innings of work, while walking one. Lathram is 4-3 on the season with a 3.48 earned run average. He is second on the team with 34 strikeouts.

Rodriguez, a third baseman from Moreno Valley, Calif., hit .609 (14-for-23), including four home runs, and drove in 11 to help lead Sterling to a 6-0 week that included a four-game sweep of Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference rival McPherson (Kan.) on April 18 – 19. In game two of a doubleheader against NCCAA Manhattan Christian (Kan.), Rodriguez was 4-for-5 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBIs in the 13-0 victory. His best performance against the Bulldogs came in game three when he drove in three, scored twice and had five hits, including a home run.

On the season, Rodriguez leads the Warriors and ranks second nationally in batting average (0.460) and total hits (75).
