NAIA Baseball National Players of the Week — No. 2

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jonathan Bermudez of Southeastern (Fla.) has been named the NAIA Baseball National Pitcher of the Week and Austin Kuchinski of Central Baptist (Ark.) has been chosen as the Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. The duo was selected for their performances from March 19 – 25 and was picked out of a pool of conference award winners.

Jonathan Bermudez, Southeastern (Fla.)
6-2, Jr., P, Coamo, Puerto Rico

• The junior tossed a complete game no-hitter to lead the Fire to a 7-0 victory over Warner (Fla.). Bermudez faced the minimum, striking out 16 of the 27 batters faced to mark his fourth-straight starter with 13-or-more strikeouts.
• Weekly Stats
  o 16 strikeouts and one walk.
  o Nine innings pitched.
  o 9-0 record on the season.

Baseball Player of the Week
Austin Kuchinski, Central Baptist (Ark.)
6-0, Jr., C, Powder Springs, Ga.

• Kuchinski hit six home runs – three in each game – in the final two contests of a three-game series against American Midwest Conference rival Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.).
• One of the junior’s homers was a walk-off grand slam to propel the Mustangs to a 7-6 win in game two of the series.
• Weekly Stats
   o Six home runs and 16 RBI.
   o .778 batting average (7-of-9).
   o Six runs scored.
