Players of the Week - No. 2

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The second installment of the 2011 NAIA National Football Players of the Week were announced on Monday by the national office: Vincent Aguilar of Trinity International (Ill.) was named NAIA Defensive Player of the Week, Levi Cockle of Peru State (Neb.) was named NAIA Special Teams Player of the Week and Chris Ware of Eastern Oregon was NAIA Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 5 – 11. These winners were chosen out of a pool of player of the week performers among 10 conferences and independents.

Aguilar, a 6-1, 250 lb., junior defensive end from Ontario, Calif., registered 5.0 sacks and 15 total tackles (12 solo) in Trinity International’s 13-10 victory over Concordia (Mich.) on Sept. 10. His sack total is the most by any NAIA player this year. He added two pass break-ups and had 5.5 tackles-for-loss. He was part of a defense to limit Concordia to 164 yards of total offense, including 11 on the ground.

Cockle, a 6-1, 210 lb., sophomore kicker from Lincoln, Neb., set a personal-best with 16 points in the Bobcats 58-27 victory against Culver-Stockton (Mo.) on Sept. 10. He went 3-for-3 on field goal tries, 7-for-7 on PATs and averaged 59.5 yards on seven kick-offs. His two, 40-yard field goals established a career standard.

Ware, a 6-1, 215 lb., senior quarterback from Rainier, Ore., helped the Mountaineers snap the 44-game Frontier Conference win streak of No. 1- ranked Carroll (Mont.). In the 41-33 upset on Sept. 10 in Helena, Mont., Ware passed for 281 yards and five touchdowns as he was 24-for-30 (.800) through the air. He also rushed 12 times for 71 yards and one score for a 5.9 yards per carry average. His rushing touchdown was the 13th school record that he has accomplished. Currently, he ranks 15th in the country in total offense per game (257.5).
