Players of the Week - No. 8

KANSAS CITY, Mo. РThe eighth installment of the 2011 NAIA National Football Players of the Week was announced on Monday by the national office. Dantren Anderson of MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) was named NAIA Defensive  Player of the Week, Tom Lynch of Saint Xavier (Ill.) was tabbed NAIA Special Teams Player of the Week and E.J. White of St. Francis (Ill.) was selected as NAIA Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 17 Р23. These winners were chosen out of a pool of player of the week performers among 10 conferences and Independents.

Anderson, a 5-foot-10, 185 pound junior defensive back was part of three game-changing plays in MidAmerica Nazarene’s 49-39 win against No. 7 Benedictine (Kan.). The native of Oklahoma City, Okla., posted eight tackles (4 solo), had one interception, blocked a field goal and recovered a fumble. He returned the fumble 39 yards in the second quarter to hand the Pioneers a 28-7 advantage. He also picked off Raven quarterback Bill Noonan in the fourth quarter to help seal the victory.

Lynch, a 5-foot-11, 205 pound senior set a NAIA national single-game record with 21 points as a kicker. Thanks to the St. Xavier offensive outburst in the 75-33 triumph over Taylor (Ind.), Lynch nailed four field goals and was successful on nine PAT attempts. He hit two, 40-plus yard field goals as he also surpassed the school’s career points mark. He now has 322 career points. The native of Frankfort, Ill., currently leads all levels of college football (NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA) in scoring by a kicker with 91 points (14 FG, 49 XPs).

White, a 6-foot-1, 175 pound sophomore quarterback earned his second national award in the last three weeks. He established a pair of passing records in leading the Fighting Saints to their sixth-straight win, a 69-6 victory against winless Haskell (Kan.). He finished his day with a school-record six passing touchdowns, all coming in the first half en route to a 42-6 lead at the intermission. He completed his first 14 attempts and ended his day by going 15-for-16 with  236 passing yards. The native of St. Cloud, Fla., now stands with 27 passing scores for the season, which is a new Fighting Saints single-season record.
