NAIA Football Players of the Week ? No. 8

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Markeith Cooper of MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.), Austin Dodge of Southern Oregon and Daniel Martinez of Wayland Baptist (Texas) have been named the NAIA Football National Players of the Week, the national office announced Monday. The trio was chosen for their performances during the week of Oct. 20 – 26 and were chosen out of a pool of conference and independent award winners.

National Defensive Player of the Week
Markeith Cooper, MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.)
So., DB, Miami, Fla.

• Played a key role in the Pioneer’s 34-27 overtime win against then-No. 2 Baker (Kan.).
• Blocked a fourth-quarter field goal attempt, which led to a 69-yard return that set up the game-tying score for MidAmerica Nazarene.
• Recorded four tackles, including one tackle for loss.
• Tallied one interception, one forced fumble and a pass break-up.
• First career National Defensive Player of the Week award.
• Last player from MidAmerica Nazarene to earn National Player of the Week honors: Joe Camacho (defensive (Oct. 22, 2012)

National Offensive Player of the Week
Austin Dodge, Southern Oregon
Sr., QB, Vancouver, Wash.

• Posted his 15th career four-touchdown game in the Raiders 66-16 win against Frontier Conference rival College of Idaho.
• Completed 79.3 percent (23-of-29) of his throws for 443 yards.
• First game with 400-or-more yards passing on less than 30 attempts.
• Leads the NAIA in passing yards per game (359.5), total offense (2,915), total offense per game (364.4) and total passing yards (2,876).
• Sixth career National Offensive Player of the Week award
• Last Southern Oregon player to earn National Player of the Week honors: Austin Dodge (offensive) (Sept. 29, 2014)

National Special Teams Player of the Week
Daniel Martinez, Wayland Baptist (Texas)
Fr., K, Dallas, Texas

• Converted four field goals to help lead Wayland Baptist to a 26-14 win against Bacone (Okla.)
• Three-of-four field goals came in the fourth quarter, including a season-long 48-yard attempt with 2:07 remaining in the contest.
• Other field goals were from 28, 24 and 45 yards.
• Totaled seven kick offs with an average of 58.3 yards per kick.
• First career NAIA Special Teams Player of the Week award.
• First-ever National Player of the Week for the Wayland Baptist football team.
