NAIA Football Players of the Week ? No. 9

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Cristian Casillas of MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.), Andy Smith of Culver-Stockton (Mo.) and Chris Swingle of Culver-Stockton have been named the NAIA Football National Players of the Week, the national office announced Monday. The trio was chosen for their performances during the week of Oct. 27 – Nov. 2 and were chosen out of a pool of conference and independent award winners.

National Special Teams Player of the Week
Cristian Casillas, MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.)
Fr., K, Rialto, Calif.

• Scored 16 points in the Pioneers 40-0 shutout victory against Peru State (Neb.) last Saturday.
• Converted 4-of-5 field goal attempts, including a 45-yard attempt – his second longest make of the season.
• Connected on 4-of-4 PATs.
• Averaged 47.8 yards per kick off.
• First career National Special Teams Player of the Week award.
• Last player from MidAmerica Nazarene to earn National Player of the Week honors: Markeith Cooper (defensive) (Oct. 27, 2014).

National Defensive Player of the Week
Andy Smith, Culver-Stockton (Mo.)
Jr., DB, Defiance, Mo.

• Returned an interception 55 yards for a touchdown in the Wildcats’ 38-24 upset victory at then-No. 7 Baker (Kan.) on Nov. 1.
• Recorded six tackles, including five solo stops.
• Leads the Heart of America Athletic Conference with five interceptions.
• First career National Defensive Player of the Week honor.

National Offensive Player of the Week
Chris Swingle, Culver-Stockton (Mo.)
Fr., QB, Blue Springs, Mo.

• Matched a career-high with four touchdown passes in Culver-Stockton’s 38-24 upset win at then-No. 7 Baker (Kan.) – the program’s first-ever win in Baldwin City. Three of his touchdowns went to wide receiver Will Kone.
• Ended the contest 23-of-36 passing for 312 yards.
• The win is the first over a ranked opponent since 2005 for the Wildcats and snapped a 20-game road losing streak.
• First career National Defensive Player of the Week honor.
