NAIA Football Players of the Week - No. 7

KANSAS CITY, MO. – Cedrick Phillips of Sterling (Kan.) has been named the NAIA Football National Offensive Player of the Week, Nate Moore of College of Idaho is this week’s Defensive Player of the Week and Dalton Taylor of Evangel (Mo.) was selected as the Special Teams Player of the Week, the national office announced Monday. These athletes were chosen for their performances during the week of Oct. 17-23, and were selected out of a pool of conference award winners.

National Offensive Player of the Week
Cedrick Phillips, Sterling (Kan.)
So., QB, Stockton, Calif.

  • In a career game for Phillips, he threw for six touchdowns and rushed for one during a 65-50 win over Ottawa (Kan.). His six passing touchdowns were good for a new school record.
  • Finishing with 589 passing yards, Phillips went 25-for-32 on the day.
  • With 40 rushing yards on 18 attempts, Phillips was Sterling's leading rusher in the game. With one touchdown to go with it, he totaled 629 offensive yards.
  • Ranks No. 1 in the NAIA in offensive yards per game (418.0), No. 3 in total offensive yards (2,926) and No. 4 in passing yards per game (320.3).
  • This is Phillips' second National Player of the Week honor this season (Sept. 19).

National Special Teams Player of the Week
Dalton Taylor, Evangel (Mo.)
So., DB, Strafford, Mo.

  • Blocked two field goals in a 30-28 win over Central Methodist (Mo.), including his second in the fourth quarter with two minutes left to help protect the victory for Evangel.
  • After blocking the first field goal, Taylor scooped up the ball and returned in 85 yards for a touchdown. 
  • Notched 12 tackles, added .5 tackles for loss, and broke up one pass from the Central Methodist offense. 
  • This is Taylor's first National Player of the Week honor.

National Defensive Player of the Week
Nate Moore, College of Idaho
Sr., S, Meridian, Idaho

  • With nine solo tackled and three assisted to his name, Moore helped his college of Idaho team pull off the upset over then-No. 17 Southern Oregon, 44-41.
  • Late in regulation, Moore intercepted a pass from the Southern Oregon offense to force overtime. 
  • Along with the crucial interception, Moore tallied one pass break-up on the afternoon.
  • Ranks No. 22 nationally in tackles per game (10) and No. 25 in total interceptions (3). 
  • This is Moore's second National Player of the Week honor this season (Sept. 19).
