NAIA Football Players of the Week - No. 8

KANSAS CITY, MO. – Jesse Rogers of Friends (Kan.) has been named the National Offensive Player of the Week, Sam Van Ginkel of Northwestern (Iowa) is this week’s Defensive Player of the Week and Jared Amundson from Morningside (Iowa) was selected as the Special Teams Player of the Week, the national office announced Monday. These athletes were chosen for their performances during the week of Oct. 24-30, and were selected out of a pool of conference award winners.

National Offensive Player of the Week
Jesse Rogers, Friends (Kan.)
Sr., RB, Wichita, Kan.

  • Piled up 322 yards on the ground on 31 carries (10.4 yards per carry) in a 49-30 win over Bethany (Kan.).
  • Found the end zone four times rushing on the day, increasing his total rushing touchdowns to 12 for the season. 
  • During the win, his 322 yards put Rogers over the 3,000 career rushing yard count and he now sits with 3,185 yards during his four years. 
  • Ranks No. 1 in the NAIA in total rushing (1,361) and rushing yards per game (170.1), No. 5 in all-purpose yards per game (178) and No. 6 in total all-purpose yards. 
  • This is Rogers’ first National Player of the Week honor.

National Special Teams Player of the Week
Jared Amundson, Morningside (Iowa)
So., K, Sioux City, Iowa

  • After kicking a 33-yard field goal and going four-for-four on PAT attempts Saturday against Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.), Amundson extended his streak to 26-consecutive made PATs. 
  • Completed a two-point conversion pass to Austin Allen on a broken play.
  • This season, Amundson has tallied six-of-nine field goal attempts with a long of 37-yards and is 53-55 on PATs to rank No. 2 on the Mustang squad in scoring. 
  • Ranks No. 3 in scoring (kicking) per game (8.9), No. 4 in total scoring (kicking) (71) and No. 13 in field goals (.8). 
  • This is Admundson's first National Player of the Week honor.

National Defensive Player of the Week
Sam Van Ginkel, Northwestern (Iowa)
Sr., DE, Rock Valley, Iowa

  • During a 41-0 shutout over Midland (Neb.), Van Ginkel registered four sacks, breaking the Great Plains Athletic Conference and school record he formerly shared with Cody Van Sloten (3.5). 
  • Accounted for seven total tackles in leading the Red Raider defense to its first shutout of the season. 
  • Ranks No. 31 in the NAIA in both sacks per game (.6) and tackles for loss per game (1.4). 
  • This is Van Ginkel's first National Player of the Week honor.
