2018 NAIA Football Players of the Week ? Week Two

Kansas City, Mo. - Adam Abbatacola of Arizona Christian has been named the NAIA National Football Offensive Player of the Week, Bryce Van Beek of Northwestern (Iowa) has been named the NAIA National Football Defensive Player of the Week and Steven Delia of Briar Cliff (Iowa) has been named the NAIA National Football Special Teams Player of the Week. The three student-athletes were nominated for their performances during the week of September 3 – 9 and were selected out of a pool of conference award winners.


Special Teams Player of the Week

Steven Delia, Briar Cliff (Iowa)

So., K/P, Chesterfield, Mo.

  • Broke a Briar Cliff single-game record with seven made extra point attempts in the Chargers’ first win over a ranked opponent since 2004 (Dakota State)
  • Weekly Stats:
    • Three punts with a long of 63 yards
    • 7-for-7 in PAT’s


Defensive Player of the Week

Bryce Van Beek, Northwestern (Iowa)

Sr., DB, Rock Valley, Iowa

  • Tied both a GPAC and Northwestern records with three interceptions against Jamestown (N.D.), returning one 49 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter.
  • Weekly Stats:
    • Two solo tackles
    • Three assisted tackles
    • Three interceptions, one for a touchdown


Offensive Player of the Week

Adam Abbatacola, Arizona Christian

  • Accounted for 557 yards of offense and set program records for touchdowns and passing yards.
  • Weekly Stats:
    • Passed for 527 yards
    • Recorded seven passing touchdowns
