2019 NAIA Football Players of the Week – Week Eight

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Darius-James Peterson of College of Idaho has been named the NAIA National Football Offensive Player of the Week and Kole Murlin of Siena Heights (Mich.) has been named the NAIA National Football Defensive Player of the Week and Derek Mccormick of Ave Maria (Fla.) has been named the NAIA National Football Special Teams Player of the Week, the National office announced Monday. The three student-athletes were nominated for their performances during the week of October 21 – 27 and were selected out of a pool of conference award winners.

 

Special Teams Player of the Week

Derek Mccormick, Ave Maria (Fla.)        

Fr., K, Port Charlotte, Fla.

  • Mccormick had a perfect afternoon kicking in Gyrenes’ 37-20 win over St. Thomas (Fla.)
  • Weekly Stats:
    • Three field goals (32, 52, 55 yards)
    • 4-for-4 on PATs
    • Eight kick-offs with three resulting in touchbacks

 

Defensive Player of the Week

Kole Murlin, Siena Heights (Mich.)

So., LB, Celina, Ohio

  • Played a huge part in Siena Heights first-ever win over top-10 opponent in program history
  • Weekly Stats:
    • 15 total tackles, six solo stops
    • Contributed to four turnovers by defense that held Saint Francis to a scoreless second half.

 

Offensive Player of the Week

  • Set school record with five touchdown passes and 300-yard passing game
  • Helped Yotes to first-ever win at SOU
