KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Richard McCalop of Science & Arts (Okla.) was the dunk champion of the 3rd annual NABC-NAIA Shoot & Slam, presented by US Bank on Saturday afternoon in Municipal Auditorium. The event was staged in conjunction with the 2016 Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball National Championship.

McCalop received a perfect score of 100 points in the final round. He was followed by Dominque Walls of Indiana Tech, who compiled a final-round score of 86. The third dunker, Collin Woods of Arizona Christian, notched a score of 81 in the first round and therefore was eliminated prior to the final round.

Each dunker was judged on two dunks in the first round, which was completed within a two-minute span. The two dunkers with the highest composite score advanced to the final round. The format is the same in the final round. The dunker with the highest final round score will be the winner. A panel of judges will score the dunks from 8-to-10 points, resulting in a maximum score of 50 and a minimum score of 40 per dunk.

All three players were nominated by NAIA Division I and Division II institutions and were required to be a senior in eligibility status. They were selected by the NABC-NAIA Men’s Basketball Shoot & Slam Committee.
