Top 25 Poll - No. 2
Holding at No. 2 is Northwood (Fla.) with one first-place nod and 359 total points. For the third-straight week, Davenport (Mich.) captured the No. 3 position with 355 points and the remaining two-first-place votes. Dordt (Iowa) and Oregon Tech both move up one spot to Nos. 4 and 5, respectively.
Indiana Wesleyan, who defeated then-No. 4 Grace (Ind.) on Nov. 29 by a 65-55 count, has already knocked off then-No. 4 Bellevue (Neb.) on Nov. 5 and then-No. 6 Cornerstone (Mich.) on Nov. 11. The Wildcats next face No. 10 Indiana East on the road on Wednesday.
No. 15 Grand View (Iowa) is ranked for the first time in over a year and one of five newcomers this week. With a 6-2 record, the Vikings’ signature win in the last week was over then-No. 16 Morningside (Iowa), 71-69, on Nov. 30. Grand View was last ranked on Nov. 29, 2010, when it was 20th.
The biggest downward movement came from Indiana Tech and Saint Francis (Ind.) who were ranked in the top 15 last week but were pushed out of the Top 25. The Warriors were seventh in the Nov. 28th edition and Saint Francis was No. 15. Others to fall out were Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) (No. 23), Reinhardt (Ga.) (No. 24) and Daemen (N.Y.) (No. 25).
The Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) and Mid-Central College Conference (MCC) both land four programs, which is the most of any of the conferences/independents/unaffiliated groups. Oregon Tech, No. 11 Northwest (Wash.), No. 13 Warner Pacific (Ore.) and No. 24 Eastern Oregon all hail from the CCC. These teams play in the MCCC: Indiana Wesleyan, No. 6 Grace, No. 12 Goshen (Ind.) and No. 21 Taylor (Ind.). Overall, 11 conferences/independents/unaffiliated groups are represented in the Top 25.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and independents. The third regular-season Division II Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll will be announced on Dec. 12.
Notes: (All information dates back to 2000) Last week’s No. 1 ranking for Indiana Wesleyan was the first for the program in the history of Division II polls dating back to the 1991-92 season… No. 1 Indiana Wesleyan is the fourth-different team since the start of 2010-11 season to earn the top spot… Embry-Riddle (Fla.) owns the most No. 1 rankings since 2000 with 17; No. 5 Oregon Tech, Oklahoma Wesleyan and former NAIA member Walsh (Ohio) have posted 12 mentions at No. 1… Oregon Tech is listed with the longest active streak in the Top 25 at 78-straight weeks -- the last time the Hustlin’ Owls were not ranked was on Jan. 11, 2005… In second place is No. 2 Northwood (Fla.) with 43-consecutive mentions.
