POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. - (Box Score) Two free throws by Spencer Comer allowed Saint Francis (Ind.) to earn a 64-63 win over Jamestown (N. D.) in the first round of the NAIA Men’s Division II National Tournament on Thursday, March 8 at the College of the Ozarks.

The Cougars took control of the first half, getting up 21-12 at the 7:54 mark and held that advantage into the break at 29-20.

Saint Francis led most of the second half, fighting off several Jimmie comeback attempts along the way. The Cougars got up 38-27 at the 14:40 mark on a 3-point shot by Kevin Bloom, but couldn’t score again until the 11:02 mark after Jamestown had scored eight-straight to narrow the difference to 38-35.

The Cougars, out of the Mid-Central Conference, tried to pull away again, building a 60-48 lead at the 3:11 mark and they were still ahead by ten with 2:56 remaining. The Jimmies fought back, getting to within 62-59 with 23 seconds left before Byron Jones hit back-to-back buckets to give Jamestown a 63-62 lead with three seconds left in regulation. A foul on the ensuing inbounds play called on Jamestown put Comer at the free throw line. He knocked down both for the one-point win.

Saint Francis overcame 18-of-48 shooting from the floor and 5-of-16 3-point shooting by converting 23-of-34 free throws. Jamestown made 23-of-57 shots from the field and 5-of-12 3-pointers, while converting 12-of-21 free throws. The 22-12 Cougars held a 33-31 rebounding advantage.

Scott Kohne led the Cougars with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Qadr Owens added 16. Jamestown got 17 points from Mark Hoge in a reserve role, before fouling out. Byron Jones scored 16.
