Southern Oregon Scores Game-Winner With 1.5 Seconds Left

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – (Box Score) –Coming from 12-points down in the final 11:26, Southern Oregon rallied to upset No. 10 Midland 73-71 in the first round of the NAIA Division-II National Championship at Point Lookout, Mo.
The game winner came on junior Jordan West's baseline drive and lay-up with 0:01.5 remaining off a nice feed from guard Tim Weber. Midland had tied the contest six seconds earlier on guard Jesse Jones' breakaway layup.
Midland scored the game's first seven points and led for much of the contest. The Warriors' largest lead was 56-44 with 11:26 remaining before Southern Oregon rallied behind an aggressive 2-3 zone defense and the free throw shooting of Weber, who hit six in a row during the Southern Oregon surge.
Southern Oregon outscored Midland 20-4 over a seven minute stretch to take a 64-60 lead with 4:30 remaining, setting the stage for four lead changes and West's final heroics.
West lead Southern Oregon with 21 points. Leading seasonal scorer Eric Thompson added 15 points to go along with nine rebounds while Weber also had 15 points and added six assists. Ben DeSaulnier also reached double figures with 11 points.
Senior Marcus Franklin, one of three returning starters from Midland's 2014 runner-up finish, paced the Warriors with 18 points, 16 in the first half. Also in double figures for Midland were Galen Gullie and Harold Ridgeway with 15 and13 points, respectively. Midland bows out with a 26-8 record.
Southern Oregon, now 25-9, advances to Friday's second round where they will meet Grace (Ind.), also unseeded, at 1:45 PM.
