Embry-Riddle Pulls Away From Union

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – (Box Score) –No. 2 Embry-Riddle (Fla.) flexed its muscle and pulled away from No. 15 Union (Ky.) 89-75 in the second round at the 2015 NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball National Championship.

The Eagles improved picked up their NAIA-leading 34th win, improving to 34-1 on the year. They advance to play in their fourth quarterfinal and first since the 2010 season.

Dalton Barnes led a balanced scoring effort for Embry-Riddle, pouring in 21 points.  DeForest Carter dropped in 20 points and dished out 10 assists, the highest total of the 2015 championship to date. Three other players scored in double figures as the Eagles shot 62% for the game, 56% (10-for-18) from the three-point arc.

Embry-Riddle used an early 7-0 run to take command and led by six at the break, 47-41. Both teams shot well in the first half with the Eagles at 64% and Union at 56%.

Union made it a two-point game (55-53) at the 13-minute mark but Embry-Riddle answered with a decisive 13-4 run to push the lead up to double-digits where it stayed for the rest of the game.

Two days after earning its first ever win at the Division II Men’s Basketball National Championship, Union has its season come to an end with a 30-5 record. JD Tucker led the Bulldogs with 15 points and Dominique Hagans netted 13.

"Offensively, I thought we were OK today, and I thought defensively we were OK too,” commented Union head coach Kevin Burton. “But, unfortunately, we'd have one breakdown and they would drive the ball past us and get open shots. That was the key today."

Embry-Riddle will play the winner of Grace (Ind.)/Southern Oregon winner on Saturday at 3pm.
