Bethel Knocks Off Robert Morris in a Thriller

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – (Box Score | Bracket) The fifth game of the day featured No. 4-seed Bethel (Ind.) (24-9) knocking off No. 5-seed Robert Morris (Ill.) (24-10), 85-80.
Both teams went back and forth as neither team was able to distance themselves from the other. There were four ties and eight lead changes in the first half.
With the score tied at nine, Robert Morris went on an 8-1 run to extend its lead to seven at 17-10. The seven point advantage was the biggest lead in the half for either team.
The Pilots would fight back and retake the lead at the 5:26 mark on a two point basket by Paul Forman.
The two teams would battle it out the rest of the half. A two-point basket by Robert Morris’s Terrell Green gave the Eagles the four-point advantage heading into the break.
Corey McCrary (Robert Morris) led all scorers with 12 points at the half. No other player scored in double figures.
The Pilots shot 33 percent (13-of-39) from the field and 41 percent (5-of-12) from the 3-point line.
Robert Morris went of 16-of-42 (38 percent) on 2-point shots and 8-of-20 (40 percent) from beyond the arc.
The second half went just like the first. Both teams answered each other’s baskets. There were eight lead changes and two ties in the second half.
Bethel was able to take the lead at the 4:08 mark after Clay Yeo made a pair of free throws. The Pilots never surrendered the lead.
The Pilots finished the game shooting 41 percent (30-of-72) from the field and 8-of-32 from the 3-point line. Bethel was led in scoring by Clay Yeo who scored 21 points. Gage Ott and Jorydn Coon added 20 and 17 points respectively. Coon also added a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Eagles shot 36 percent (30-of-38) on 2-point field goals and 16-of-43 from beyond the 3-
point arc. Terrelle Green led Robert Morris with a game-high 22 points. Green was joined in double figures by Johnny Stevens (15 points), Corey McCrary (14 points) and Darius Randolph (11 points).
The 16 3-point field goals made by Robert Morris ties them for second most in Championship history. The 43 3-pointers attempted is second in Championship history.
The two clubs combined for 65 3-point field goals attempted, which is tied for second most in Championship history.
Bethel advances to the second round and will take on either No. 1-seed Briar Cliff (Iowa) or No. 8-seed Washington Adventist (Md.) on Friday at 5:45 p.m.
