KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the fourth time in program history, Coastal Georgia holds the No. 1 ranking in the NAIA Men’s Golf Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Friday. The Mariners, who won their second-straight NAIA Men’s Golf National Championships title a week ago, collected all 17 first-place votes and 467 total points in the postseason edition.
Coastal Georgia cruised to the 2015 title, posting a team score of 3-over-par 291 to finish the 72-hole event at 7-under – 11 strokes better than second-place William Woods (Mo.). Hunter Cornelius and Alastair Tidcombe were the top individual finishers for the Mariners. The duo shot 283 to tie for fourth-place.
National championships runner up William Woods checks in at No. 2 with 452 points, while No. 3 Johnson & Wales (Fla.) (430 points), No. 4 Oklahoma City (420 points) and No. 5 USC Beaufort (S.C.) (395 points) round out the remainder of the top five.
No. 15 Tennessee Wesleyan and No. 19 The Master’s (Calif.) highlight the positive movement within the poll, as both programs jumped five spots from the May 7 installment. The Bulldogs finished 11th at the national championships, while The Master’s took 15th.
No. 24 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) is this week’s lone newcomer. The Blue Raiders finished 16th at the national championships, highlighted by a 51st-place finish by Oliver Cowl.
The Sun Conference leads all leagues with five teams represented in the poll – Johnson & Wales, USC Beaufort, No. 10 Webber International (Fla.), No. 13 Northwood (Fla.) and No. 19 Thomas (Ga.).
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, Association of Independent Institutions and Unaffiliated Groups.
