Players of the Week - No. 10

Players of the Week - No. 10
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -The final installment of the 2011 NAIA National Men’s Soccer Players of the Week were announced on Tuesday by the national office: Aaron Fenlason of Biola (Calif.) was named NAIA Defensive Player of the Week and Christian Ramirez of Concordia (Calif.) was named NAIA Offensive Player of the Week. They were selected based on their performances from Oct. 31 – Nov. 6 and were chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.

Fenlason, a 6-foot-1 senior goalkeeper, was stout on the defensive front in a pair of Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) tournament road shutouts last week. In the 1-0 victory over Vanguard (Calif.) on Nov. 2, the native of Rancho Bernardo, Calif., finished with four saves in 90 minutes as he faced 14 overall shots. The blanking was only the third for Vanguard this year (in 19 matches) and the Eagles first win at Vanguard since 2002. On Nov. 5, Fenlason posted three saves in the 1-0 triumph over GSAC regular-season champion Fresno Pacific (Calif.). Fenlason has allowed two goals over the past five games as Biola has won five-straight matches.

Ramirez, a 6-foot-2 junior forward, notched seven points in a 2-0 week for the Eagles in the GSAC tournament. The native of Garden Grove, Calif., either scored the goal or had an assist in five of the six team goals. He found the net twice in the 2-1 victory over The Master’s (Calif.) on Nov. 2 and then recorded three helpers in the 4-2 win against No. 10 Azusa Pacific (Calif.) on Nov. 5. In the NAIA, he ranks sixth in total points (47) and 10th in total goals (18).
