By: Sam Knehans, Communications & Sports Information Intern
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Josh Guerrero of Northwest (Wash.) has been named the NAIA Men's Soccer National Offensive Player of the Week and Tyler McIntosh of Mid-America Christian (Okla.) has been selected as the NAIA Men's Soccer National Defensive Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Guerrero and McIntosh were chosen for their performances during the week of Sept. 16 – 22 and were selected out of a pool of conference, independent, and unaffiliated grouping award winners.
Guerrero, a junior midfielder from Orlando, Fla., scored the game-winner in each of Northwest’s games last week. On Tuesday, he netted the game-winning goal—from 30 yards out—in the 82nd minute against then-No. 12 Concordia (Ore.), securing a 3-2 victory for the Eagles. He also scored the second goal for the Eagles in the 66th minute. On Saturday, he scored what would prove to be the game-winner against College of Idaho in the 51st minute off of a Todd Siendenburg feed. For the season, Guerrero leads the Eagles in goals (3) and ranks among the NAIA leaders in total game-winning goals (30th, 2).McIntosh, a sophomore goaltender from Sand Springs, Okla., notched a pair of shutouts for the Evangels last week. On Monday, he recorded six saves against NCAA Division I Oral Roberts (Okla.), including three in the second half and one in overtime, to preserve the 0-0 tie. On Tuesday, he made four saves in the Mid-America Christian 3-0 win over Friends (Kan.). McIntosh, who started every game as a freshman last season, has recorded three shutouts in five games this year. He needs just one more shutout to tie his season total from a year ago. For the season, McIntosh ranks among the national leaders in goals against per game (36th, .96).
