2013 NAIA Men?s Soccer Players of the Week - No. 8

By: Sam Knehans, Communications & Sports Information Intern

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Aurelien Norest of MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) has been named the NAIA Men's Soccer National Defensive Player of the Week and Joseph Webster of Shawnee State (Ohio) has been selected as the NAIA Men's Soccer National Offensive Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Norest and Webster were chosen for their performances during the week of Oct. 21 – 27 and were selected out of a pool of conference, independent, and unaffiliated grouping award winners.

Norest, a junior defenseman from Pontoise, France, anchored a pair of shutouts as MidAmerica Nazarene defeated Avila (Mo.), 4-0, and then-No. 4 Benedictine (Kan.), 1-0. Norest also added a pair of goals against Avila, finding the back on the net on both of his shots during the match. With the two victories, MidAmerica Nazarene clinched a share of the Heart of America Athletic Conference title. Despite being a starting defenseman, Norest is tied for first on the team in goals (6) and is third on the team in points (12). He also ranks 43rd nationally in total game winning goals (3).

Webster, a junior forward from Kendal, United Kingdom, recorded back-to-back hat tricks—the first two of his career—as Shawnee State secured non-conference victories over Kentucky Christian, 6-1, and Cincinnati Christian (Ohio), 6-0. Webster also added a goal in the Bears 2-2 draw with Pikeville (Ky.) and an assist in the blowout of Cincinnati Christian. In total, he accumulated seven goals and one assist—good for 15 points on the week. For the season, Webster leads the team in goals (12) and points (28) and is tied for second on the team in assists (4). He ranks among the NAIA leaders in total goals (35th, 12), total game winning goals (43rd, 3) and total points (45th, 28).
