KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Joshua Barnard of Westmont (Calif.) has been named the NAIA Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Barnard was selected based on his performances from March 31-April 6 and was chosen out of a pool of conference, independent and unaffiliated group award winners.

Barnard, a junior from Glendora, Calif., helped the No. 5-ranked Warriors to a 3-0 week with an unblemished 6-0 record. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) No. 45-rated NAIA singles player knocked off the No. 4 singles players from No. 11 Concordia (Calif.) (6-1, 6-0) and NCAA Division III No. 3 Williams (Mass.) (6-1, 6-2), before sweeping the No. 3 singles player from Arizona Christian (6-0, 6-0). Along with partner Rodrigo Schaefer, Barnard recorded a perfect week at No. 1 doubles with wins over the ITA’s No. 13-rated NAIA doubles tandem from Concordia (9-8 (7-2)), as well as the top doubles pairings from Williams (9-7) and Arizona Christian (8-3). Barnard and Schaefer are the ITA’s No. 2-ranked doubles team in the NAIA and boast an 11-4 record on the season.

For the year, Barnard owns a 13-2 record in singles play.
