MOBILE, Ala. – (Bracket | Results | Video Recap) The 2016 NAIA Men’s Tennis National Championship has come to an end here in Mobile, Ala., as the Grizzlies of Georgia Gwinnet have proved their dominance for the third-straight year. The Grizzlies made a name for themselves easily pushing past Xavier (La.), 5-2 in the final match of the championship.

It seemed like the Grizzlies breezed through the competition throughout the tournament, sweeping all their opponents (5-0) until the championship match, where Xavier brought the fire.

The Grizzlies, who have not lost a doubles match all season, found themselves down 2-1 leading into singles play, as Kyle Montrel and Karen Salwan defeated Matias Hatem and Connor Clements, 8-3, while Tushar Manolekar and Adam Albrecht won 8-5 against Gilad Berman and Lachlan McPhee in No. 3 doubles.

It was singles matches that showed true triumph, as the Grizzlies needed four matches to win it all. Gilad Berman recorded the first victory over Kevin Chaouat (6-1, 6-0) and Kevin Konfederak was right behind with a (6-2, 6-4) victory over Karan Salwan.

The Grizzlies sealed a perfect season record of 26-0 and go back to Lawrenceville, Ga. with their third national championship banner in just their third year as a program.

The Gold Rush went home with their heads held high after being the only team in Xavier history to make it to a national title match. The men fought hard throughout the championship with wins against Westmont (Calif.) (5-1) and two all-out battles against Keiser (Fla.) (5-3) and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) (5-3) in the semifinals.
