KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Mauro Parnell of Doane (Neb.) has been named NAIA National Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week and Monte Larsen of Morningside (Iowa) has been tabbed as the NAIA National Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Parnell and Larsen were selected based on their performances from Jan. 21 - 27.

Parnell, a senior and Omaha, Neb., native, took first place in the triple jump at the Concorida (Neb.) Classic on Jan. 27. Parnell jumped 15.21 meters (49-11), hitting the NAIA "A" qualifying standard and breaking the Doane's school record. Additionally, he set the field house and meet record at Concordia Classic. Parnell's leap leads the NAIA by 1-foot -9-inches and is the farthest by a Great Plains Athletic Conference triple jumper by 2-feet-1- inch.

Larsen, a senior from Neola, Iowa, defeated 22 athletes, on his way to winning the 800-meter with a time of 1:50.28 at the Buena Vista (Iowa) Open on Jan. 26. This time set a Morningside school record by great than two seconds. His time is the fastest in the NAIA by more than two seconds and would be the top time in NCAA Division's II and III and National Junior College Athletic Association. Larsen also anchored the Mustangs to victory in the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter relays.
