By Travis Rae, Communications and Sports Information Intern

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Augustus Cowan of Briar Cliff (Iowa) has been named NAIA National Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week and David Walters of Langston (Okla.) has been tabbed as the NAIA National Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Cowan and Walters were selected based on their performances from Jan. 28 - Feb. 3.

Cowan, a sophomore and Hartwell, Ga., native, took first place in the triple jump at the Dennis Young Classic hosted by NCAA Division III Buena Vista (Iowa) on Feb. 2. Cowan jumped 15.54 meters (51-0), breaking Briar Cliff's school record and is the farthest mark by a Great Plains Athletic Conference triple jumper this season. Cowan out-jumped his nearest competitor by five feet. Cowan also competed in the long jump, where he finished third with a personal best leap of 6.89 meters (22-7 ¼).

Walters, a senior from St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, defeated 41 athletes, including NCAA Division I and Division II runners in the 60-meter. He won that event with a time of 6.66 at the NCAA Division I New Mexico Collegiate Classic on Feb. 2. He broke the Langston school record, which Walters had set last week. His mark is the fastest 60-meter time in the NAIA so far this season.
