By Alan Grosbach, Manager of Communications and Sports Information

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the 2015 NAIA Wrestling All-Americans. Honors were bestowed to the top-eight finishers in each weight class at the 58th annual NAIA Wrestling National Championships, presented by Blue Chip Wrestling, that were held March 6 – 7 at the Kansas Expocentre in Topeka, Kan.

The quintet of Jake Williams (149) of Cumberland (Tenn.), Gustavo Martinez (149) of Grand View (Iowa), Jimmie Schuessler (165) of Grand View, Ethan Hinebauch (165) of Montana State-Northern and Brock Gutches (174) of Southern Oregon all earn All-America honors for the fourth time of their career.

Gutches, who was named both the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the championships and the National Wrestling Coaches Association Outstanding NAIA Wrestler of the Year, picked up an 8-0 major decision to win a fourth-straight title at 174 pounds. There have only been six other individuals in NAIA wrestling history to win fourth championships, with Turk Lords of Montana State-Northern (1998-2001) the most recent individual to do it.

Jake Ekster (149) of Missouri Valley, Joe Cozart (157) of Lindsey Wilson (Ky.), Zach Skates (157) of Oklahoma City, Shawn McGhee (157) of Campbellsville (Ky.), Eric Lopez (165) of Menlo (Calif.), Shawn Lau (174) of Great Falls (Mont.), Jacob Abrams (184) of Southern Oregon and Charles Johnson (197) of Southern Oregon claimed their third All-America honor.

National champion Grand View, which won the title for the fourth-straight season, had nine of its 12 qualifiers receive All-America honors, followed by Lindsey Wilson with eight. Runner-up Southern Oregon placed six grapplers, while Great Falls and Oklahoma City tallied five All-Americans each.

Four institutions – Williams Baptist (Ark.), Ottawa (Kan.), Doane (Neb.) and St. Andrews (N.C.) – had their first-ever All-American at this year’s championships.

Seventeen individuals earned the honor for the second time.
