By Alan Grosbach, Manager of Communications and Sports Information

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Evans Kirwa of Embry-Riddle (Fla.) has been named the NAIA National Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Kirwa was selected based on his performance from Oct. 15 - 21 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent runner of the week selections. This is the third weekly honor for Kirwa this season.

Kirwa, a native of Eldoret, Kenya, claimed his 16th career individual championship and fourth this season by placing first overall at the Sand Shark Cross Country Invitational in Beaufort, S.C. The senior crossed the line with a personal-best and program record time of 24:05.21 - nearly 40 seconds faster than second place - in the 8,000-meter race. Kirwa's first-place finish led the Eagles to their second team title of the season.

With the performance, Kirwa ends his regular-season career with 13 of the top-20 times in Embry-Riddle history.
