KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Regena Jackson of Belhaven (Miss.) has been named the NAIA National Division I Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Jackson, who is earning the award for the second time this season, was selected based on her performances from Feb. 6 – 12 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.

Jackson led Belhaven to a 1-1 record during the week, including a 79-63 win against Mobile (Ala.) on Feb. 9 and an 86-80 loss at William Carey (Miss.) on Feb. 11. She led all scorers in both games, while helping the Lady Blazers to a Southern States Athletic Conference West Division leading 20-6 overall record and 13-2 conference mark. Jackson averaged 34.0 points, three rebounds, 3.5 assists and three steals while shooting 38.5 percent (20-of-52) from the floor and 90.9 percent (20-of-22) from the free throw line. Against William Carey, she accounted for 52.5 percent of Belhaven’s scoring en route to a career-high tying 42 points. Seventeen of Jackson’s point total was scored at the charity stripe, which also set a personal-best.

A senior guard from Denham, La., Jackson leads the nation at 23.7 points per game, while ranking second in total scoring with 569 points. Jackson also ranks amongst the top 20 nationally in assists per game (4.3), steals per game (2.8), free throw percentage (83.4 percent), total steals (68) and total assists (104).
