DI Women?s Basketball Player of the Week ? No. 1
KANSAS CITY, Mo - Amber Arceneaux-Francis of St. Thomas (Texas) has been named the NAIA National Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Arceneaux-Francis is the first honoree of the 2012-13 season and was selected based on her performances from Dec. 31 - Jan. 6 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/unaffiliated group winners.
Arceneaux-Francis, a native of Houston, Texas, tallied a pair of double-doubles to lead the Celts to a combo of victories against Northwood (Texas), 93-54, on Jan. 3 and at SAGU (Texas), 77-56, on Jan. 5. The senior forward converted 21-of-34 field goals and 17-of-22 free throws en route to a 29.5 points per game average. She also ended the week averaging 15.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and 4.0 steals per game.
Against Northwood, Arceneaux-Francis led St. Thomas with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while ranking second in the box score with six assists. She wrapped up her stellar week with 36 points and 21 rebounds (eight offensive, 13 defensive) - both career-highs - against SAGU.
Arceneaux-Francis has emerged as a force for the Celts this season, ranking amongst the top 10 nationally in rebounds per game (12.0), offensive rebounds per game (4.8), points per game (20.1), total rebounds (168), total scoring (281), defensive rebounds per game (7.2) and steals per game (3.4).
