KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jalissa Council of Oklahoma Baptist has been named the NAIA National Division I Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Council was selected based on her performances from Jan. 13-19 and was chosen out of a pool of conference and independent award winners.

Council, a native of Weleetka, Okla., scored a career-high 31 points on Jan. 16, leading Oklahoma Baptist to a 85-79 win over then-No. 3 Oklahoma City. The win snapped the Stars streak of 35-straight victories in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) and was just their 11th loss in conference play over the past seven seasons. Council scored her 31 points, on 13-of-18 shooting, in just 25 minutes of action. She also added five rebounds in the contest. In the Bison’s second game of the week, on Jan. 18 against Southwestern Christian (Okla.), Council again grabbed five boards, to go along with her team-high 18 points in 22 minutes on the floor. For the week, Council shot 69 percent (20-29) from the field and averaged 24.5 points and five rebounds per game—all while playing just over 23 minutes per game.

On the season, Council leads the Bison in points per game (16.36) and field goal percentage (.602). Since returning after missing five games in December and early January, Council has averaged 25 points per game. She’s also been named the SAC Player of the Week in both weeks since her return (Jan. 6-12, Jan. 13-19).
