KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Chasity Kearney of Tougaloo (Miss.) has been named the NAIA National Division I Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Kearney was selected based on her performances from Jan. 20-26 and was chosen out of a pool of conference and independent award winners.

Kearney, a native of South Panola, Miss., recorded her 11th and 12th double-doubles of the season last week. In the Bulldogs 86-47 victory over Fisk (Tenn.) on Jan. 20, Kearney scored a game-high 25 points on 11-of-18 shooting and grabbed a game-high 15 boards. On Jan. 25, in Tougaloo’s 79-77 loss to Southern-New Orleans (La.), Kearney grabbed 20 rebounds—for the third time this season—and also led the Bulldogs in scoring with 29 points. For the week, Kearney averaged 27 points and 17.5 rebounds per game.

On the season, Kearney leads the Bulldogs in rebounds per game (12.94) and ranks second on the team in points per game (19.47), blocks (20) and steals (27). Kearney leads the nation in total rebounds per game (12.94) and also ranks among the top 10 in the NAIA in defensive rebounds per game (3rd, 8.12), offensive rebounds per game (5th, 4.82) and total rebounds (8th, 220). She has registered 13 double-doubles on the year, good for second in NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball behind Shanique Buford of Harris-Stowe (Mo.).
