KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Alexsis Brown of Cal Maritime has been named the NAIA National Division II Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Brown was selected based on her performances from Jan. 30 – Feb. 5 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.

Brown filled up the net in both of her outings over the past week, going for a combined 75 points. She began the week with a 35-point effort in the Keelhaulers’ 73-67 loss to Cal State San Marcos on Feb. 2. She nailed 19 of 23 free throws (.826) and added six rebounds and two steals. Brown followed that up with a career-high 40 points in pushing Cal Maritime to 7-0 in California Pacific Conference action with a 90-80 victory over Simpson (Calif.) on Feb. 4. She also contributed 11 rebounds to give her 10 double-doubles on the season. For the week, Brown shot 22-for-49 (.449) from the field and 26-for-32 from the free throw line (.813).

The 5-foot-7 senior forward from Richmond, Calif., took over the national scoring lead with 24.1 points per game after her monster week. She also ranks 22nd in the NAIA in rebounding with an average of 8.9 per contest. Brown has scored at least 10 points in every game this season.
