KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Laurel Zwiener of Hastings (Neb.) has been named the NAIA National Division II Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Zwiener is the first honoree of the 2013-14 season and was selected based on her performances from Dec. 30 – Jan. 5. She was chosen out of a pool of conference and independent award winners.

Zwiener, a Pleasanton, Neb., native, averaged 19 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks to lead Hastings to wins over then-No. 9 Southwestern (Kan.) on Dec. 30 and Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) on Jan. 4. Against Southwestern, the senior center posted her third double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds. She was also a force on the defensive end for the Broncos with four blocked shots. Zwiener backed that performance with a game-high 20 point effort against Dakota Wesleyan.

On the season, Zweiner ranks eighth nationally in blocks with 34. She also leads the team with 131 rebounds (7.7 rebounds per game) and is third on the squad in scoring at 14.5 points per game.
