By Alan Grosbach, Manager of Communications and Sports Information

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Casey Davis of Roosevelt (Ill.) has been named the NAIA National Division II Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Davis, who is the third-straight honoree from the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC), was selected based on her performances from Jan. 20 – 26 and was chosen out of a pool of conference and independent award winners.

Davis, a native of Country Club Hills, Ill., scored a program single-game record and career-high 51 points – the highest scoring mark in NAIA Division II women’s basketball this season – in Roosevelt’s 112-99 loss against Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) on Jan. 25. The senior guard ended the contest 21-for-34 from the field, connecting on all but one of her shots from inside 3-point range. Davis entered the game against Olivet Nazarene 15 points shy of the 2,000 career points plateau, a feat that she accomplished less than eight minutes into the contest. Davis, who is the first player in Roosevelt history to score 2,000 career points, currently rests with 2,036 points in a Laker uniform. Three days prior to her record setting performance, Davis scored 25 points to lead Roosevelt to a 69-66 win against IU South Bend (Ind.). For the week, Davis averaged 38 points and shot 60 percent (30-of-50) from the field.

On the season, Davis ranks second in the NAIA in total scoring with 512 points and sixth in points per game at 22.3.
