No. 7 Oregon Tech hands out first upset of the night

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – (Box Score) In the eighth and final game of the first night, No. 7 Oregon Tech delivers the first upset of the national championship, sending the Jimmies of Jamestown (N.D.) home in a tight game that ended with the Hustlin’ Owls winning its first ever national championship game, 71-64.

Senior Megan Whetstone led her team with 16 points and three rebounds, as well as Ashleigh Vandenbrink (13), Morgan Roberts (12) and Karly Leveque (11). As a team Oregon Tech shot 25-54 from the field, pulled in 31 rebounds and were 13-of-18 from the charity stripe.

Jamestown ends its season 29-5 and is 4-3 in first round competition at the seven national championships they have appeared in. The Jimmies ended the night with four players scoring in double-digits, including senior Jessica Buck who tallied 12 points and 10 rebounds earning her third double-double on the season.

Oregon Tech faces off against No. 3 Marian (Ind.), Friday, March 11 at 12 p.m. CST.
