2017 NAIA Women's Lacrosse National Players of the Week - No. 1 (Feb. 28)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kelly Friere of Reinhardt (Ga.) was selected as this week’s NAIA Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while Becan Hennighan is this week’s National Defensive Player of the Week. They selected for their performances during the week of Feb. 20 – 26 and were chosen out of the conference and Association of Independent Institutions award winners. 

Offensive Player of the Week
Kelly Friere, Reinhardt (Ga.)
Fr., A, Woodstock, Ga.                 

• In a 20-1 victory for then-No. 10 Reinhardt (Ga.), Friere earned 10 points to lead the Eagles.
• Recorded five goals and five assists on the week for Reinhardt.
• Assisted on five shots and attempted six shots-on-goal in the win. Also recorded two ground balls for the Eagles.
• Holds the No. 1 ranking in two major statistical categories – goals per game (6) and points per game (9).
• This is Friere’s first National Player of the Week honor. 

Defensive Player of the Week
Becan Hennighan, Cumberlands (Ky.)
So., D, Saint Cloud, Fla.      

• Anchored the Cumberlands (Ky.) back line, which overcame a six-goal second-half deficit to defeat NCAA Division II Charleston (S.C.).
• With only two turnovers on the week, Hennighan helped hold the Golden Eagles to four second half goals in the 15-14 win.
• Recorded the opening draw control in overtime, which led to the game-winning shot.
• Averaged 2.0 draw controls a game with two in each contest.
• This is Hennighan’s first National Player of the Week honor.
