NAIA Women?s Soccer Players of the Week - No. 3
By Alan Grosbach, Manager of Communications and Sports Information

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Bekah Garvin of Concordia (Calif.) has been named the NAIA National Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week and Kirsty Montignani of Rocky Mountain (Mont.) has been tabbed National Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Garvin and Montignani were selected based on their performances from Sept. 10 - 16 and were chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.

Garvin, a senior goalkeeper from Sonora, Calif., earned her third shutout of the season - 25th of her career - in Concordia's 1-0 overtime victory against then-No. 12 Cal State San Marcos. In all, Garvin made five saves over 94 minutes before the Eagle offense netted the golden-goal game-winner.

Garvin, who owns a 31-16-9 career record between the pipes for the Eagles, ranks third in the Golden State Athletic Conference in goals against average (.830), allowing only five goals in Concordia's six matches.

Montignani, a senior midfielder from Dunfermline, Scotland, posted back-to-back hat tricks in two wins last week for the Battlin' Bears. In the 6-1 victory over Great Falls (Mont.) on Sept. 14, she netted two goals in the first half before capping the effort with a score in the 80th minute. Two days later against Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.), Montignani gave Rocky Mountain the early 1-0 lead in the 30th minute before sparking a five-goal second half for the Battlin' Bears with the eventual game-winner in the 54th minute. She also scored in the 65th.

Montignani is currently the nation's leader with 13 goals, while ranking second in the NAIA in points with 28 (13 goals, two assists). She had scored three-or-more goals only twice prior to last week: three goals against Jamestown (N.D.) on Sept. 20, 2009; four goals against Southwestern (Ariz.) - now Arizona Christian - on Oct. 9, 2009.
