By Alan Grosbach, Manager of Communications and Sports Information

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Esther Anyanwu of Brenau (Ga.) has been named the NAIA National Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week and Felicia Reimann of Morningside (Iowa) has been selected as the National Defensive Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Anyanwu and Reimann were selected based on their performances from Sept. 16 – 22 and were chosen out of a pool of conference, independent and unaffiliated group award winners.

Anyanwu, a senior from Lagos, Nigeria, was responsible for five of the six goals scored by Brenau last week. The forward, who was also named NAIA Offensive Player of the Week during the 2012 season, recorded her second hat trick of the season, netting all three goals in the Tigers’ 3-0 win against Spring Hill (Ala.) last Friday. Her other two goals came approximately 24 hours later against then-No. 17 Mobile (Ala.). Anyanwu opened the scoring in the 2nd minute with a 22-yard strike before burying the eventual game-winner in the 38th minute on a penalty kick. She currently ranks third in the NAIA in goals (11) and seventh in total points (24).

Reimann, a native of Rapid City, S.D., played a decisive role in the Mustangs’ 1-0 overtime victory Sept. 20 at then-No. 23 Hastings (Neb.). The senior goalkeeper recorded a season-high 12 saves to preserve her third shutout of the season and hand the Broncos their first loss in Great Plains Athletic Conference regular-season action since 2009. Reimann owns a 1.06 goals against average and 47 saves through 767 minutes of action.
