By Chad Waller, Director of Communications and Sports Information

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Adella King of Indiana Tech has been named NAIA National Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week and Reta Woodard of Embry-Riddle (Fla.) has been tabbed as the NAIA National Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. King and Woodard were selected based on their performances from March 11 – 17.

Woodard also won two 2013 indoor weekly awards and King was recognized once.

King, a senior from Detroit, Mich., was top medalist in both the 100 and 200-meters and also broke professional runner Natasha Hastings’ meet record at the NCAA Division I Coastal Carolina Shamrock Invite March 14 – 16. In a field of 154 sprinters, mostly from Division I, King (pictured top left) clocked 11.36 in the 100-meters. Against similar competition in the 200-meters, King set a new meet record by .01 of a second with a time of 23.38. She also was part of a second-place team in the 4x200-meter relay (1:38.21) finishing behind the host school.

Woodard, a junior from Spring Hill, Fla., set The Sun Conference record in both the hammer and discus throws at the NCAA Division I South Florida Bulls Invitational March 14 – 15. She won the hammer with a heave of 59.62 meters (195-7) and finished third in the discus at 47.30 meters (155-2) against a heavy field of NCAA Division I athletes. Those two efforts are not only conference records, but the top marks thus far in the NAIA.

This is the first award for the 2013 season. For the complete Athlete of the Week calendar, click here.
