KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Emma Buchholz of Concordia (Ore.) has been named the NAIA National Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week and Ellie Staker of Embry-Riddle (Fla.) has been selected as the NAIA National Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Buchholz and Staker were selected based on their performances from March 17 – 23. This is the second award of the 2014 outdoor season.

Buchholz, a junior from Sheridan, Ore., put herself on the top of the NAIA performance list in the javelin throw at the NCAA Division III Lewis & Clark (Wash.) Spring Break Open on March 22. She took medalist honors with an effort of 154-8 (47.15-meters) and is now a full 11-feet farther than the next NAIA competitor on the season chart.

Staker (pictured), a senior from Seattle, Wash., finished first overall in both the 800-meters and 1,500-meters at the NCAA Division I Florida State Relays from March 21-22. The three-time 2014 NAIA Indoor All-American also posted two school records in the process and established championship qualifying standards. She finished in a time of 2:07.38 in the 800 and 4:29.52 in the 1,500.
