Player of the Week - No. 3

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Spring Hill (Ala.) right-side hitter Yiting Cao has been named the NAIA Volleyball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Cao was selected based on her performance from Sept. 12 – 18 and was chosen out of a pool of conference player of the week selections among 23 conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.

Cao was the catalyst in the Badgers’ 3-2 upset victory over No. 2 Lee (Tenn.) on Sept. 17 when she exploded for 34 kills, 18 digs and two aces. For the week, she blasted 73 kills and tallied 47 digs, 14 service aces and eight block assists in 15 sets. Cao led her team to wins in all four of its matches as Spring Hill improved to 15-0 and remained as one of only three unbeaten NAIA teams in 2011.

The 6-0 senior from Shanghai, China, tops the NAIA with 5.3 kills per set. She also ranks fifth in total kills (251), sixth in service aces (33) and 12th in hitting percentage (.382). Cao was chosen as a Third-Team NAIA All-American last season.

The next Player of the Week announcement will be on Sept. 27.
