Player of the Week - No. 8

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Concordia (Calif.) opposite hitter Brooke Marino has been named the NAIA Volleyball National Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Marino was selected based on her performance from Oct. 17 – 23 and was chosen out of a pool of conference player of the week selections among 23 conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.

The 2010 NAIA Third-Team All-American has sparked the No. 2 Eagles to a 24-match win streak, the second-longest active streak in the NAIA behind only Spring Hill’s (Ala.) 29-straight victories. She spurred Concordia to a pair of wins over top-20 teams. Marino blasted 13 kills and tallied 13 digs in a 21-25, 25-17, 25-16, 29-27 triumph over 17th-ranked Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) on Oct. 18. She followed that performance up with 25 kills and 20 digs in a 25-16, 25-14, 20-25, 26-28, 15-13 win over No. 14 Biola (Calif.) on Oct. 22. Concordia improved to 12-0 in the Golden State Athletic Conference, three games in front of both Azusa Pacific (Calif.) and Fresno Pacific (Calif.).

The 5-foot-11 junior from Mission Viejo, Calif., boasts a team-best 328 kills and her 238 digs rank second. Marino’s 3.81 kills per set places her 24th in the NAIA. She is also 46th overall in total kills.

The next Player of the Week announcement will be on Nov. 1.
