2016 NAIA Women's Volleyball Player of the Week - No. 8 (Oct. 25)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Three players have been named NAIA National Volleyball Players of the Week. Andrea Kappelman of Friends (Kan.) is the National Defender of the Week, Brooke Granstra of Dordt (Iowa) was selected as the National Attacker of the Week and Maddie Squiers of Bellevue (Neb.) is the National Setter of the Week. These three were selected based on their performances from Oct. 17-23 and were chosen out of a pool of conference player of the week selections.  

National Attacker of the Week
Brooke Granstra, Dordt (Iowa)
Sr., MB, Sioux Center, Iowa 

• Averaged nearly five kills per set in a 3-1 win over No. 3 Midland (Neb.) and recorded 22 total kills in a comeback win against Briar Cliff (Iowa).
• On the week, tallied 41 kills, 20 digs and 10 blocks to help the No. 10 Defenders go 2-0 in Great Plains Athletic Conference play.
• Ranks No. 16 in the NAIA in both hitting percentage (.343) and kills per set (4.1).  
• This is the first National Player of the Week honor for Granstra. 

National Defender of the Week
Andrea Kappelman, Friends (Kan.)
Sr., OH, Dallas, Texas

• In three matches, Kappelman garnered 100 digs, including setting a new school record with 40 in a 3-2 victory over Saint Mary (Kan.).
• Averaged 7.7 digs per set and earned one service ace. Totaled a reception percentage of .952 and a service percentage of .929.
• Ranks No. 9 nationally in both total digs (644) and digs per set (6.0).
•This is the first National Player of the Week honor for Kappelman.  

National Setter of the Week
Maddie Squiers, Bellevue (Neb.)
Fr., S, Kearney, Neb.   

• During a 4-0 week for the Bruins, Squiers averaged 13.8 assists per set while helping the Bellevue (Neb.) offense to a .285 hitting percentage in four sweeps.
• Added eight kills, 31 digs and six blocks to her personal stat line.
• Ranks No. 1 in the NAIA in total assists (1,279) and No. 4 in assists per set (11.2).
• This is Squiers’ second National Player of the Week honor this season (Sept. 13).
