2016 NAIA Women's Volleyball Player of the Week - No. 9 (Nov. 1)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Three players have been named NAIA National Volleyball Players of the Week. Mackenzie Vallad of Cornerstone (Mich.) is this week’s National Defender of the Week, Peiyi Liu of Columbia (Mo.) was selected as the National Attacker of the Week and Alayna Kavanaugh from Concordia (Neb.) is the National Setter of the Week. These three were selected based on their performances from Oct. 24-30 and were chosen out of a pool of conference player of the week selections. 

National Attacker of the Week
Peiyi Liu, Columbia (Mo.)
Jr., RS, Nanjing, China

• In a 5-0 week that included  two then-top 10 wins for Columbia, Liu gathered a .383 attack percentage in 19 sets played.
• Recorded 87 kills, 10 blocks and 59 digs to lead the Cougars during an undefeated week.
• Ranks No. 1 in the NAIA in hitting percentage (.426), No. 9 in total kills (455) and No. 12 in kills per set (4.2).  
• This is Liu’s third National Player of the Week honor this season (Sept. 20, Oct. 11). 

National Defender of the Week
Mackenzie Vallad, Cornerstone (Mich.)
So., L, Rockford, Mich. 

• Posted a career-high 43 digs in a win at Siena Heights (Mich.), which kept Cornerstone’s Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference title chances alive.
• Captured 79 digs on the week to anchor the defense, which limited then-No. 9 Lourdes (Ohio) to a .173 hitting percentage – 65 points under its season average.
• Ranks No. 22 in total digs (626) in the nation.
• This is the first National Player of the Week honor for Vallad 

National Setter of the Week
Alayna Kavanaugh, Concordia (Neb.)
Sr., S, Roca, Neb.   

• In helping the Bulldogs to a 3-0 in Great Plains Athletic Conference play, Kavanaugh facilitated a high-hitting offense as she averaged 12.3 assists per set.
• During a 3-2 win over Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.), Kavanaugh had a career-high 79 digs. That mark currently stands as the highest single-match total of any NAIA player so far this season.
• Tallied three aces to go with 10 kills, 147 assists and 17 digs on the week.
• Ranks No. 27 in assists per set (10.1).
• This is Kavanaugh’s first National Player of the Week honor.
