NAIA Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week - No. 8

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Animat Olowora of Oklahoma City has been named the NAIA Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for the third time this season, the national office announced Wednesday. Olowora was selected for her performance on Oct. 22, and was chosen out of a pool of Conference/Association of Independent Institutions award winners.

  • In her third-consecutive meet, Olowora captured the individual victory, this time at the NAIA Mid-States Classic on Oct. 22 in Winfield, Kan. With a winning mark of 16:50.2 on the 5-kilometer course, Olowora outran the second place finisher by 56.2 seconds. 
  • Out of 166 runners, Olowora earned the individual honor, while also helping her then-No. 6 Oklahoma City team to the first team victory under current head coach, Matt Aguero. The Stars defeated other top NAIA programs in then-No. 17 Hastings (Neb.) and then-No. 25 Benedictine (Kan.)
  • Up next for the Stars is the Sooner Athletic Conference Championships in Shawnee, Okla. Oklahoma City is looking to repeat as the conference's top team before heading to the NAIA National Championships in Elsah, Ill., on Nov. 19. 
  • This is Olowora's third Runner of the Week honor this season (Sept. 28 and Oct. 5).
