KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Concordia (Calif.) is the new No. 1 team listed in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Men's Soccer Top 25 Poll, announced this afternoon. Concordia (Calif.) slid up one spot during an idle-playing week and received 341 points and eight first-place votes. CU, who is a perfect 6-0, started the 2007 season at No. 9 in the preseason poll and has moved up in each of the first three regular season ratings.
Azusa Pacific (Calif.) is back to its preseason billing of No. 2 as the Cougars scored 333 points and four first-place nods. Graceland (Iowa), Lee (Tenn.) and Southern Nazarene (Okla.) sit at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. Graceland and Lee each received one first-place vote. Southern Nazarene moved up five spots courtesy of a 1-0 win over then-No. 19 Baker (Kan.) last Saturday.
Last week's No. 1, William Jewell (Mo.) fell to No. 15 after dropping two matches.
In other interesting news, Grand View (Iowa) has won three straight after beginning the season 1-3-1 and is No. 19 after sitting out last week's poll. No. 21 Savannah Art & Design (Ga.) and No. 25 Midland Lutheran (Neb.) also are mentioned in the Top 25 after not being ranked on Sept. 12. MLU enjoys the Top 25 for the first time in 2007.
The fourth regular season Top 25 poll will be released on Wednesday, Sept. 26.
