NAIA Men's Soccer Top 25 Poll Announced; Concordia on top Again

NAIA Men's Soccer Top 25 Poll Announced; Concordia on top Again

Oct. 17, 2007

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - There was very little shake-up in this week's National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Men's Soccer Top 25 Poll (Oct. 17). Concordia (Calif.) clung to the No. 1 spot and has now been the top team for five straight weeks. That streak is the longest for an NAIA club since Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) went for six straight during the 2005 season. Concordia has a showdown with conference-rival and second-ranked Azusa Pacific (Calif.) on Wednesday, Oct. 17.

No. 3 Graceland (Iowa) stayed at the same position for the last six weeks in posting three first-place votes. The Yellowjackets of Graceland strung together a 1-0 win on Sunday against NCAA Division I Western Illinois. Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) and Southern Nazarene (Okla.) are tied at No. 4.

No. 13 Warner Southern (Fla.) made one of the biggest jumps this week, leaping seven spots. The Royals have won six straight including a 1-0 win over then-No. 13 Savannah College of Art & Design last Sunday.

In other interesting news, Azusa has earned a Top 10 placing in all eight (including preseason) polls this year. Azusa and Concordia, along with Maine-Fort Kent, are the remaining NAIA schools with an unblemished record.

Four teams consistently in the Top 25 hail from Region II, which is comprised of the California Pacific Conference (CPC) and the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) - No. 1 Concordia, No. 2 Azusa Pacific, No. 11 Fresno Pacific and No. 14 Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.). Concordia and Azusa have been rated in the Top 10 in all eight polls this year while another region team, Holy Names (Calif.) is in the "others receiving" category this time with five votes.

No. 25 Lambuth (Tenn.) pops into the poll as this week's newcomer after missing out last week.

The eighth regular season Top 25 poll (ninth overall) will be released on Wednesday, Oct. 24.
